Silver Blaze - #journeytotheunknown
The sculpture ‘Silver Blaze - #journeytotheunknown’ is an art object from 2023 by Henrik Heidgen - it is a rocket made of highly polished, hand-engraved aluminium and brass with a total height of 45cm. It was originally inspired by the Voyager Golden Records, two golden discs mounted on the two Voyager probes that were launched from Earth into interstellar space in 1977. In particular, the pulsar map developed especially for this mission, as a signpost for extraterrestrial life forms to our solar system and to us as a species, was to be reflected on ‘Silver Blaze’.

Symbolism

Influenced by the idea of first contact with extraterrestrial beings, Henrik Heidgen designed a concept that reflects, both visually and metaphorically, his ideas of human existence and our scientific achievements. He chose symbols and formulas such as Albert Einstein's theory of relativity or the Eye of Providence, in accordance with the Masonic interpretation of the ever-revealing truth and the call to uncover knowledge.

The following symbols are immortalised in the rocket:

  • 'Four Elements' based on the film 'The Fifth Element'
  • 'Zodiac sign Gemini' corresponding to my birth month June
  • 'Scarab' as an Egyptian symbol of good luck and as a sign of resurrection and life
  • 'Vesica Piscis' as a symbol of the womb of the goddess Isis, shows the divine feminine and the fusion into something new as well as the union of opposites
  • 'Fibonacci sequence' also known as the golden ratio - adapted as a representation in the shape of a heart
  • 'Fine structure constant' as a physical formula for the electromagnetic interaction between photons and electrically charged elementary particles
  • 'DNA helix' as the basic building block of life
  • The symbol for the 'number Phi' with value 1.618 - is considered the perfect ratio
  • 'Mirror of the James Webb Space Telescope' as a sign of mankind's technical achievement
  • 'Shell model of an atom'
  • 'Connected triangles' as Celtic runes, shows the interweaving of past, present and future
  • the 'Infinity' symbol as a sign of infinity and the constant cycle
  • Representation of a 'female body' as a symbol of physical existence
  • 'Ouroborus' - the self-biting snake as the most perfect of all forms, symbolising cosmic unity
  • the symbol 'Ankh' from Egyptian mythology, as a hieroglyph for life
  • the symbol 'Zia' from Indian mythology as a sign of the life cycle with recurring seasons, phases of life, cardinal points and periods of the day
