How we helped Polypuff send a plush to space

Other fans put up a poster. Gaming creator Polypuff gave his idol a journey: he wanted to send a plush to space – or more precisely, to the edge of space. That’s where we come in: Stratoflights builds the tech, registers the flights with the authorities, and launches high-altitude weather balloons carrying products into the stratosphere – in Germany just as in the US or Spain.

The passenger: Gigi Murin, a VTuber from hololive English. Polypuff, who reaches around 240,000 subscribers on YouTube with his League of Legends videos about Bard, calls her his “oshi” – the Japanese term for the creator you’re most loyal to as a fan.

To make sure the little figure survived the trip, we developed a custom-made Gigi Murin probe. A carbon mount keeps the plush firmly in the camera’s frame. The launch took place near Hanover, Germany, with registration and insurance included.

The result of the stratospheric balloon flight: Gigi Murin at around 38,000 meters, the curvature of Earth before her, the black sky above. Every shot in the video comes straight from our camera probe – real footage, no CGI.

The video “I sent my oshi to space” passed the 250,000-view mark within days. Gigi Murin reacted herself, and gaming media covered it.

Chocolate bars, laptops, LEGO spaceships – and now an oshi. By the way, Gigi Murin wasn’t the first VTuber figure we’ve brought to the edge of space. For creators, fan communities, and merch campaigns, the chance to send a plush to space creates a moment people talk about.
